ABOUT EXIFs
EXCHANGEABLE IMAGE FILE FORMAT
In today's digital age, every photograph made with any type of camera device carries with it a wealth of information beyond pixels. This hidden treasure trove is recorded and known as EXIF Data, an acronym for Exchangeable Image File Format.
Photographers, both Professional and hobbyist can embed Copyright details, information and usage rights directly into EXIF Data. This serves as a digital watermark, helping to protect intellectual property.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS DNA
The EXIFs 2024 competition awards will feature five distinct categories: Portrait, Landscape, Wildlife, Street and Creative Photography. Over a five week period, photographers will enter their work into one of these categories. The Winning photographers from each category will be
selected by community choice through public voting. Alongside category winning awards, their 1/1 work will be minted and auctioned on Gamma, a web3 Bitcoin and Stacks blockchain creator marketplace for artists, with all proceeds going directly to the chosen winning photographers. Our aim is to enhance the visibility of photography and its creators embracing lens based artists in merging and building bridges from web2 through web3 technology. By offering free entry and leveraging a platform, the awards will democratise access to prestigious recognition and provide financial benefits directly to photographers through this exposure to a global audience and new collectors of their work.
CELEBRATING PHOTOGRAPHERS
EXIF Data was born in October 1995 created by the Japan Electronic Industries Development Association *"JEIDA" and was developed and has paved the way in storing a wealth of useful metadata for photographers globally.
The standard format for RAW "large lossless files capturing data without compression", JPEG "Joint Photographic Experts Group" and TIFF "Tagged Image File Format" are the most common types of storage for photographers from their camera's image capture, all containing EXIF Data, in our eyes and words, "The Photographs DNA". Therefore and because of this, we want to celebrate with photographers for embracing this digital information of how their images have been created technically and artistically.
We aim to do this by uniting and rewarding photographers globally through this awards competition.
*EXIFs WPA is not associated nor affiliated with "JEIDA".

In relation to gamma.io a seamless web3 user interface launchpad allowing artists to create with no code, manage and sell digital assets, so creators, in particular photographers, can focus on what they do best, that is to create high quality work and etch their mark in the art world through blockchains, earning revenue streams from auctions, editions and royalties. Whereas gamma in digital imaging, photography and correction terms, is a measure of how smoothly a display transitions from black and white for balanced tones between highlights and shadows. It's the straight line portion on the slope of a characteristic curve, relating exposure to density of an image in development. The correction process adjusts the distribution of tones for a more natural look and feel.
Not exactly, although we are embracing web3 technology for a better way to reward photographers for their work in producing photography as an art form, expression and for documenting important events from around the world. There is no better record or proof than that of a photograph that has been captured in a moment of time, with EXIF Data built in for verification to be recognised and safely stored on chain. In fact, as well as onboarding photographers from so called web2 backgrounds we recognise the importance of and value photography as a medium and see web3 blockchains as the future for lens based artists, combined with and utilising the demand for traditional physical prints. We have big plans for the EXIFs WPA 2025 format, which will be unveiled after this, our inaugural competition, be a part of it.
Our founders backgrounds are made up of professional photographers, ambassadors of photography and industry experts themselves, so we know how much hard work goes into producing imagery and getting recognition. We salute you and want to celebrate your wins, in fact we want to celebrate all lens based artists through this awards whom participate and submit their photographs, we would love to see what's in your photographs DNA. This is why we've made EXIFs WPA free to enter and open to all photographers.
No, we invite all photographers from all backgrounds to enter and submit their work to EXIFs WPA, whether you're a professional or hobbyist, we just want to see and award great photography. That's also why we've made a fair selection process for all shortlisted category entries and community voting to decide their favourites, which in turn will decide each of the five category winners and overall winner by way of the most public votes. The overall winner will be crowned EXIFs Photographer 2024 please review the Rules of Entry.
Absolutely yes! Just because you make your photography solely on film, it doesn't mean that you cannot enter EXIFs WPA. Obviously we understand that negative or positive film does not contain the EXIF Data from the analogue camera it was made with but of course you can add the necessary required information of The Photographs DNA to the scanned image when saving it as a TIFF/JPEG File for submission.
Yes of course, photographers can submit entries regardless of the brand or type of camera used to make their photographs, after all, the camera is merely a recording device tool. However, unfortunately EXIFs WPA does not currently accept panoramic format due to the nature of its elongation, nor should you enter images made with a mobile phone due to only limited devices being able to produce RAW capture, which are not accessible to everyone, for submissions. We will consider both of these options for future EXIFs awards. See Rules of Entry.
